SEGA CD + Game Genie/PAR

I was doing a search for Lunar The Silver Star Game Genie codes. I
found out that the Sega CD system never had a game cheating Device such
as Game Genie or Pro Action Replay.

Years later we manage to emulate the Sega CD through emulators like
Gens, and Kega.
Gens happens to have the Game Genie capability, but not for Sega CD/32X
games.
My question is why hasn't anyone attempted to bring this into play yet?
I don't know much about how emulators work, or how they are created, or
how ROMS/ISOS work interally. But I'm pretty shocked to see no one has
enabled cheating for Sega CD Games. I'm pretty sure it can be done.

Just wondering...

Nah, I don't think it could be done... If the original console didn't had
the Game Genie or PAR, I think emulators can't use them -- ROM may be
malfunctioning, man!

Eh well, I'm just a little surprised thats all. I read an older post on
one of the usenet groups dating back to 1995. I wish I had saved that
post because that's where i got the idea from.

In the message, the poster said that considering the technology we have
today (meaning 1995 of course), Galboo could of easily created some
device, probably in the same manner of the original Genesis Game Genie
Cartridge format.
So that's why I asked my question.

Based on emulators I have used over the years, I can't see why
something [like] the old Game Genie couldn't be applied to Sega CD
games.

For example, FCEUltra for NES, that has something which allows people
to load up cheats during the ROM startup. I looked at some of the codes
the emulator uses, and they don't appear to be Game Genie, or PAR
based... infact I'd say they were HEX-Decimal Based Codes. Hex-Decimal
Cheats, are pretty much the core of most game cheating devices today.
That much I do know.

Would be nice to see something like that though.. I'd like to hack
Lunar 1 just to see how powerful the characters could get... heh.

Thanks

Yep, that would be fun. And why, in teh God's name, FCEultra, claming that
it has EVERY game genie codes, cannot find the rom's for the Mega Man 1-6??
I would like to hear they explaination. BTW, I thought of your problem for a
while, and I think that cheating in those games IS possible... but it will
need serious ROM modifications.

From what I do know, it's not ROM modification, but rather ISO. Sega CD
games that you download off the net, they're all ISOS, CD Images.
So I'm not sure if you can mod an CD Image. I'd have to look into that.

As for your little Mega Man problem hehe, uhh I can direct to a site
that has the codes.. they're not game genie codes, but I'm pretty
they're better.

www.zophar.net... they're in the cheats section. You just download the
cheat you want, and extract it into your FCEUltra Cheats folder. Make
sure that the cheat file's name match that of the rom you are trying to
cheat on, or the codes won't work.

Example: megaman1.cht > megaman1.nes

and there are lots of Game Genie cheats on gamfaqs.com as well. So
check there if you haven't. Hope that helps ya bud. If you need any
help, just email me.
